Not sure what is causing this issue

Hey guys for some reason when i click on quick mask mode
and use gradient it shows up red when i have white selected

Following a tutor making a glass ball and i cant get past this step cause of this issue. I got rid of all the layers you see behind this circle and the issue is still there. I show only the gradient layer and its red. So im 100 percent sure its just doing it red instead of white. Anyone have any ideas thanks. Really driving me crazy

Quick mask will always show as red unless you change the color by default under settings. That is to highlight what has been selected if you press q on your keyboard that red will dissappear and turn into marching ants so you can see an actual selection
