Objects, backgrounds, and feathering

Hello

When you remove an object from its background in one image and place it against the background of another image, it sometimes look false - as if the object has been stuck on top of the background in rather an amateurish way.

Would the us of 'Feather' make any difference to smoothing the object so that it appears less abrupt and more natural in its new environment and, if so, at what stage in the process would I use it (when I am positioning it in against its new background)?

Hi....

It depends on the image dragged in. Other factors will be lighting and shadows , image quality, brightness/contrast difference between the two images (source image and receiving image) etc. A screenshot from you can help us determine what may be needed to be done.

You can also try the defringe or remove white/black matte. Soften blur the edges to blend in the object into the new setting. As well as adding adjustments to the object.

I didn't have a particular image in mind, it was just a general query.

What you say about defringing and softening the focus sounds useful, so I will try that next time.
