Outlining

Duplicate the layer, delete the paper colour, and go to blending options/stroke.

I created a duplicate layer. How do you delete the paper colour?
And then you select the area you want outlined and select stroke? because after deselecting after the stroke i didn't see any difference.

I'm sorry, i'm a generally lost person!

I made the duplicate layer then right clicked on that new layer and the colour was already none. Chose blending options and stroke.
Is there any way to make it bolder/thicker?
Thank you so much!

Spruce's method is great and to be honest that's what I would use but if you are looking for other options two come to mind:

1. Follow the above steps until you have removed the white background and then use a levels adjustment layer to make the blacks darker (or bolder as you originally requested)
2. Follow the same steps until you have only your lines and then select all (Ctrl + A) then in the selection menu at the top choose expand and increase the size by a few pixels. Once this is done you can fill the selection with whatever colour you want (bolder + thicker as in original post).

Of course if you have a graphics tablet you could "ink" the image on a new layer with the brush tool which will probably get the best result but will take longer. Any chance you will post up your scanned image? That would help as it would be possible to see how detailed the drawing is and what the best process to follow should be.

I'm thinking i haven't even done that properly because right clicking on the duplicate layer gets blending options and lower down you click on 'stroke' and you can pick the width of the line in pixels but even when i make it really large nothing happens.
I tried selecting the lines with the quick selection tool to see if they become bolder but they don't.

I'll try scanning it then, webwize
