photoshop error when saving

I'm working on a large tradeshow booth design. It was suggested that if my computer can handle it, to work at scale (120 " X 90") at 150dpi. So I am.

I am nearly finished designing and now Photoshop 7 is giving me an error:

"Cannot save file...the document size exceeds 2G." Or words to that effect.

The document window tells me that the file is 970 MB, less than a Gig.

I've purged all hidden layers to reduce the overall files size. No go.

I removed the last image I had in the design, which used outer glow effect, and now the file will save.

Any suggestions that would allow me to continue to work?

Thanks,

Tomasz

There is a special app to work with large files...a free copy came with an issue of ComputerArts Magazine...I can look it up...

If you have only this layer with outer glow to add, you could use first SaveAs, then flatten your file (or part of the layers) and go on working with the outer glow.

Once you have applied your outer glow, rightclick (Cmd click) on the icon or the effect text in the layers palette and choose"create layer".
This creates a layer of your effect.

You can copy and paste this unto your original file.

Problems saving large Photoshop file

Thanks for the tip. I'll use it next time. I managed to save by cutting the offending layer from the main psd file. I then closed photoshop > restarted > opened the file and put the saved layer back in.

I think maybe the longer I worked on the file, the more RAM PS uses up. Closing and reopening seemed to release enough memory to save it.

Thanks,

Tomasz.

PS. If it isn't too much trouble, that program for working with large files may be helpful next time.

Thanks again.

that app is called Eclipse RGB.
There is a CMYK version also, but that is very pricey.
A free version of RGB came with ComputerArts Projects 47 , 2003.
You do have to register and get a license.

In case you're interested -I don't use it- just send me a pm.

tomasz...When I first read this I assumed you had used the Purge function but, reading - "Closing and reopening seemed to release enough memory to save it." - suggests maybe not.

You may not be aware that PS can purge memory via Edit/Purge/All. You don't have to purge everything but, if you're closing and reopening PS anyway, you may as well.
