Wow! This thread is just what I need. Nice heavenly bodies. I was wondering if anyone had any quick suggestions on how to create those lightning effects around stars with the halo and points that I see posted above...or like so..

Plus any suggestions on how to create good starfields. It's pretty much my understanding that noise filters are best for that. Thanks!
