Practicing "Typography"

thanks :), im just practicing typography, i really want to learn more about typography, proper usage of fonts, designs, i think this one is one of my best designs. thanks ibclare :)

Be careful learning typography to a good understanding takes over your life. Whenever you are in Restaurants and they hand you the menu you spend the 1st 15 mins identifying bad design and character Kerning etc.

As for your image It is a good start and maybe it is because I am to also a big fan of typography but my issue would be

Is the bevel suppose to be indenting the text into the wall or extruding it from the wall.

Either way you have over head lighting so if it was extruded you wont want the 3 part gradient overlay as it should be light at the top of the text with a few catchlights and highlights.

If it is meant to be bevelled into the wall then the shadow would come down at least 1 side all the way

Your dots splitting up the words seem a little high and to the right a bit

I think the stroke along the top and bottom should have more of an effect to match the spotlights more.

Your scene has even lighting from left to right but your stroke fades from side to side.

But they are things that to anyone else appear very picky but as you will learn the more you look at things the quicker you spot these things to the point they are all thta instantly pops out.

I wish you luck my friend once you take this path of learning the rare skill of real typography there is no turning back.
