Hey gurus and others, I have a problem with my photoshop on my new /old mac, I have photoshop CS and when I open it it works fine, but when i press Filters, it doesnt show all of the filters, it just shows like 5 different filters...how do I fix it?

Are the rest of the filters there but just greyed out? If so, a first guess is to check the color mode and see if your image is 16 bit. Change to 8 bit and all will be as anticipated.

Nop, they are not greyed out, they just dont excists there...its quite annoying since I like filters...but how do I reset Photoshop? i press something while its loading or something? What do I press in Mac to reset Photoshop?

Are you new to Macs and OS X? I suggest you open a Finder window and set the view to columns. That way you can see the file hierarchy. To see if the Filters are in the installation at all, look in the Filters folder found in the Plug-Ins folder of Photoshop CS. The path would be... /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS/Plug-Ins/Filters.

Have you tried launching the Filter Gallery...? Do the filters show up there?

Have you trashed the preferences? User/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Photoshop.plist (You will have to recreate your preferences again.) There is also a keyboard command to trash your prefs as you launch PS. I'm pretty sure it is to press Command Option Shift right after you launch PS.

By chance did you just create a new User?

Have you rebuilt permissions?

hey, thanks for replying so quickly :D
I just got the mac a couple of days ago and installed Adobe Creative Suite, with inDesign CS and Photoshop CS and Illustrator CS and imageReady CS, I saw the clouds filter in that path you mentioned and I installed some new filters. I just installed OS X so I made a new user (me). Thanks for help and if you know something more that would be great :D Much appreciated.

Did you install Photoshop CS before or after the OS X install? If you tried to install Photoshop CS before OS X you will have to reinstall. When you looked in the Filters folder inside Plug-Ins, did you see the 32 filters? Did you try the Filter Gallery?

Filters

I installed Photoshop CS after the OS X install... Ill go check right this minute, to see if i can see the 32 filters, what is the filter gallery [saywhat]

Right near the top of the Filters Menu is Filter Gallery... It is a window which allows you to try a series of different filters on a layer. For it to launch you must have an image open with an active rasterized layer.

As OS X is a graphic interface on top of a Unix core, there are some tricks to learn about installing software. For sure, after any major install, you should rebuild permissions. This can be done with a third party utility which accesses a number of maintenance options without opening the Terminal to access Unix directly. OnyX is a GUI utility which makes it easy to access and perform these functions. You can download it here...

For the time being, however, go to Applications/Utilities/DiskUtility. Launch it. In the column which lists your volumes, choose your hard drive or OS X partition. You may have only one. In the First Aid panel click on Repair Disk Permissions. The permission verification and repairs take a few minutes. This is an important step to keeping OS X running smoothly.
