Problem Opening File in Camera Raw

I've never encountered this problem before, but in the past few weeks I've noticed that it's happening more and more. This is a jpeg that I downloaded. If I simply open the jpeg in Photoshop, it opens fine. But if I attempt to open it in Adobe Camera Raw, I get the strange distortion that you see below and the file becomes unworkable.

I have Photoshop CS5, which does not come with a built-in ACR filter. To access ACR, I need to browse in Adobe Bridge and open Camera Raw from there.

Any thoughts?

Why don't you try to update ACR?

Looks like you use v6.0 and not the latest v6.7.1

To open image directly in ACR, you can use Russell Browns "Edit Layers in ACR"-script:

Good idea. I tried, but the update kept failing. I'll continue to explore this.

Meanwhile, I discovered a work-around. If I open the jpeg in Photoshop and then resave it as another jpeg, then my ACR is ok with that and will open it.
