Right click menu problem

This is a strange one. I have been using Photoshop CS5 for years on my Windows 10 laptop. The laptop got damaged beyond repair so I replaced it with a laptop running Windows 11. I copied everything including Photoshop onto this from my external hard drive back-up. The only problem I encountered was that everything in Photoshop appeared really small due to the larger screen resolution of the new laptop but I received some help which got that sorted. The problem I have now is a right click issue. When I right click on an image and select open with Photoshop CS5 I get a message saying, Configuration error. Please uninstall and reinstall the product. Error 14. Now that’s a non starter as I haven’t laid eyes on my installation disk for years after a few house moves. There are also other error messages that crop up now and again, "Could not load default styles because the file could not be found", "Could not load default brushes because the file could not be found", "Could not load default Repousse presets because the file could not be found". However none of these cause any problems for me as I guess I'm not using them.

The odd thing is Photoshop opens up normally from it’s taskbar shortcut and once it’s open if I right click on an image and select open with Photoshop CS5 it works normally! I’ve tried resetting the Photoshop Preferences but it made no difference. Now obviously the workaround here is to open Photoshop from the taskbar or keep it running all the time but I’d prefer to get the right click side of things working again.

I know CS5 is quite old now, like myself I’m 71, so could it just be a problem caused by moving from Windows 10 to Windows 11?

Note that below info is from Win 10 and PS CS6.

Instead of “Open with” I used “Send to “

Win + R
to open a run dialog

shell:sendto
this opens “Send to” location

Navigate to your PS CS5.exe location and drag to "Send to" folder to create a link / shortcut.

Hi @Gozoman
I dug through Adobe’s current and archived pages. The licensing repair tool still exists on Adobe’s site, but it was built for older CS3/CS4 products and often doesn’t fix CS5 installs that were simply copied to a new machine. At this point, Adobe no longer meaningfully supports CS5 licensing, so a proper reinstall from original media (or moving to a newer editor) is the only reliable long-term solution.
I hope I am wrong yet that is what I found for CS5.

Didn't work I'm afraid. When I click on sendto it opens in Photoshop okay but then the 'Configuration error. Please uninstall and reinstall the product. Error 14' window opens and when I click on OK it shuts Photoshop down.

Thanks for that. Yeah as I said no point moving to a newer version at my age and it still works by simply opening from the taskbar shortcut so I guess I'll have to forget about the right click.
