Rotate and Move a Set of Pixels to Another Area of the Same Photo
Using Photoshop 7, I loaded a photo and created a square selection area around one small area of the photo. Then I created a new layer showing the pixels in the selected area. Now I would like to turn the pixels in that selection area 90 degrees clockwise and then move them to a new location on top of the original photo. However it's been so long since I last did it that I've forgotten the next steps. Can somebody please help me out and tell me the next step(s), or suggest a website that will explain how to do this?

Similar to what we discussed yesterday on another edit. If I understand what you need...

Place your image on its own layer:



Now using a selection tool like the Rectangular Marquee Tool, select the square area you want to move:



Now with that square area selected, hold down Ctrl+J (Cmnd+J on a Mac) and that will move the square to another layer



Since that piece is still in position on top of yr original, turn off the original layer so you can see it



Now with that layer active, hold down the Ctrl+T keys (Cmnd+T on a Mac). You will get a bounding box with corners highlighted:



Now with the layer active and the bounding box active, right click on that bounding box and you'll get a dialog popup where you can rotate the selection 90 degrees


You've now rotated your image piece 90 degress. Turn on the base layer and now with the move tool, and square piece layer active, move that part of the image to where you wish

@JeffK - The veins don't line up in your example (sorry, it's my ocd and it could matter depending on the image content). But your explanation is dead on for what the OP asked for!

Yes, did that deliberately to show rotation movement and position...
