Actions Split a shape into multiple parts

Somewhat new-ish to Photoshop here! I'm trying to work with a rectangular shape and want to split it into multiple parts, something along the lines of what I've shown in the example below.



How would I go about achieving something like this?

You can do it in many ways - one is to use the Shape Builder Tool..

If you're using Photoshop, there would be several ways to accomplish this. One way I like to approach this would be using guides and the Pen Tool.

Set up your guides in the exact dimensions of the rectangle.


Use your Pen Tool to create the first shape and convert to a selection.


Fill the selection with the desired color.


Create a new layer an repeat the process for the next shape. I changed the colors of each shape for visibility.


When your done, just clear the guides.
