Technique Help!

Hey y'all,
I'm stomp with how this guy pulled off this technique so I'm hoping the Guru's here can help. I'd sent this guy a flat image of carpets (that's what we do here) and he some how got it to manipulate it so it looks like a flowing cloth. Here's the pic. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Airbrush set to multiply for shadows
