Text logo ideas request... with damn annoying letters!

Hi,

I'm just playing about a bit for our companies site (I'm not graphic design - just a dev) and had thought to use the below tutorial, but the letters just don't work!

My letters are: PPS

The problem is that using the tutorial below the centre P just doesn't look good.

So what I'd like if possible is a couple of pointers to guides that may lend themselves to these flippin' letters :)

I will have a play with this later but I am going to say PP in this effect all though it states any letters this will be very hard to get right and you will have to adapt the way you paint in the bground differently to how he suggest unless you can find a very square font
 
http://www.dafont.com/mod.font?text=PPS I modified this font a bit ie putting center of P's in with a square brush and went a bit of track with the tut but got this with only a few mins work. I suggest going to somewhere like dafont.com and type in PPS as the custom view and see which fonts you think you could manipulate easier.

Just clean it up better or maybe mix 2 fonts so 1 for the P and another 1 for the S but not to different
 
Cheers Hoogle - bar for the font it was the best I could come up with too - I think I'll have to poke around and look to a different styling altogether - probably overlapping letters, that sort of thing.

Really appreciate you taking the time to help by the way.
 
Well as cool as the effect may be I really dont think with your letter arrangements it will ever look stunning as a logo that will be eye catching on a website. maybe add a 3 color version or something but I think your best bet is to redesign.

And if you are completely stuck for ideas then we do have a freelance section where you can have members submit design ideas and you can choose the best 1 that suits your needs best for an extremely reasonable price.
 
Thanks again Hoogle, I may well do that but knowing how tight work is they'd never fork out a penny :)

You;re right I'll just have a play about and see what I can come up with - I see a visit to various tutorial sites and google images in my near future!
 
Well, I had a play about and made a few from scratch - which while they're not great I'm pleased I figured out how to do it :)

I won't bore you with all eight variations I output (or all the versions there could be!!)

I had considered a CMYK version (as I work in print) using the colours but haven't got round to that or finalised an idea yet.
 
Ok so is this some kind of print company if you want help and advice I think more about the company would be better.

As far as a logo goes in my opinion and it is only my opinion so has no relevance to your or your company it is way to loud and distracting for a logo and looks very outdated with they styles
 
As a quick example and by no means is this meant as a logo for you it is first font first colors and first layout that came to mind.
Thinking Printing is about printing nice clean sharp bright images you can play with colors that maybe demonstrate RGB or CMYK codes better But I really would keep it clean and simple. Fictional name by the way just guessing

I gave this a go using Hoogle's advice to find a font that might work on dafont.com, my favorite font site incidentally. I think you can make a text logo with a minimum of fuss if you find an appropriate font. I searched techno>square, fyi.

Concerning the ones you made, they're pretty simplistic but a good effort and a great learning experience. You should have seen some of my first efforts. You may enjoy just looking around for more tutorials and special effects to play with.

So here is an example I made, colors chosen pretty much at random. There are 4 fonts I downloaded and chose to use one. If you like any of them, let me know and I'll provide the font name, and if you want, steps to follow, not dissimilar to the tut you posted.

Oh, you guys have been busy overnight :)

The company is actually Johnston Press - but I'm working on an in-house product management solution, basically info on newspapers covering things like how many to print, page imposition, page softproofing, file tracking and so on (well and actually a lot lot more as its been around for five years now!).

The logo will actually be small so much of the stuff (especially the one with the text behind) may not be of any use anyway - also the rest of the site is a white clean look using primarily white and light blue so I'll seep it low key on the colour front.

The funny thing is I'm just playing about at home as my hobby (photography) lends me to having up to date software, which I wouldn't even be allowed to play with at work because its nothing to do with my day to day work :D

I may have another play about today but have load of family stuff on to do.

My example was simply trying to reproduce some of the aspects of the other logo you tried. The only thing much more complicated was the BG. The colors are inconsequential, but the way you presented your initial request was misleading. It would have been nice to know what you just shared before we spent time trying to make something for you to recreate. Perhaps another member might like to help you, so be patient.
 
Sorry - I get the impression I somehow came over all wrong and have offended you - I'm grateful for all the efforts and time given to help.

In my initial post I was deliberately vague as I didn't want anyone to spend any time making things for me - I'm new here and obviously people such as yourself are more helpful than I could have imagined! All I was after were pointers not help if you follow me as I see you get a lot of "heres my image fix it for me" requests and I'm hoping to be here for the long haul and don't want to 'P people right of at the start (mission failed ;))

I hope I'm not coming over as impatient - its just if someone takes the time and effort to respond, and especially do some work on it I'm not the type to just read it and walk away, I'll always respond.

I suspect I've just made things worse!

No I got what you wanted straight away hence I tried to be more helpful because you didnt ask for it to be done for you and I will go out of my way more to help people with your attitude of help me rather than do this for me.

The problem with written communication is that everyone will see it in their own way. Hence whenever I say anything which is just an opinion I clearly state this is my opinion and means nothing to anything etc....

Welcome aboard and I do hope you stick around for more....

Like Hoogle said, this kind of information exchange can be misleading.

So, what further guidance would you like? How can we be of service?
