Travel Photographer

I read a book recently that featured a travel photographer character. My imagination went a mile and more just thinking of all the AMAZING places a person would be sent too just to capture Earth at it's utter most best! Which lead to general curiousity of wondering if travel photography is easier to get into than normal people photography, or do they set a higher standard because well I've seen the National Geographic images and just WOW.

How does one get a career in travel photograph? Even as a hobbyist?

Thanks Ged, I shall look into that somore! It was what I originally googled. However as an extra, I wondered if anybody here had their own experience they could maybe share.
