Trimming the edges of an image/shape

Hi there,

I have a shape that I want to use for a number backing on a racecar. The problem is that I want the lines to be 5mm thick right around, or any thickness just as long as it is uniform.

The shape/image in question:


I want to then copy the shape into a new layer, and resize it to fit inside the old shape to look something like this:


So to get back on topic, the real question is how to I make the outer lines the same thickness right around?

Please advise.

ok, one option is:

use the pen tool to make the shape, then right click> make selection.

then use edit>stroke>outside
and then edit>stroke>inside
that way the two lines will be the same thickness

Hey BB,

Let's say I have a shape:


I can select that shape by command + clicking the shapes thumbnail in the layers panel. Then I go to SELECT > MODIFY > CONTRACT.



Then enter the exact amount you would like the border to be. Click OK.



You should have a selection that looks like this:



Then hit delete and you will have your border.
