Um... cropping INCREASES size of the image instead of DECREASING?

Literally the topic, this has been bugging me ever since I got PhotoShop CS5 again, thanks.... appreciate the kindness.

*shrugs* There's no more detail needed to add to this, I just put on the crop tool, hold LMB and select a part, press enter afterwards and instead of decreasing......

Yes, it increases! It's ridiculous, for sure.

Use the crop tool select the whole image and then use the transform controls to enlarge it

I should state this only enlarges the canvas

It is a feature to be able to increase the canvas size. You can just pull on a handle and using the alt/opt + shift constrains the proportions. If you can't crop an image that's a different story. First thing to do would be to check your tool option settings.
