Using correct settings but camera distortion correction is greyed out in elements 7

Hi there, hoping you can help!

My Dad uses Photoshop Elements 7 using now for a couple of years, and his first action is to correct verticals using the camera distortion correction filter.

After returning from 2 weeks holiday, this filter action is now greyed out. He is using a JPEG image (the image is 24 bit colour depth) however the photoshop elements setting is for 8-bit (8 bit is greyed out when I go to the mode option and there are no other options available). Also, the layer selected is 'background' not an adjustment layer.

Any ideas?

Hi Tam -

I don't use Elements, but if it's anything like the edit/transform tool in the full version of PS, this tool can't be applied to the background (lowest layer on the layer stack). Why don't you duplicate that layer and try to fix the keystoning distortion on the duplicate layer. If that works, you have your answer. :-)

Thanks Tom, I did try that too. I duplicated the layer, but no success. I'm not familiar with Elements either, I usually use lightroom and photoshop. I checked all the usual things, but it is strange he is using it the same way he always has, except that this filter has suddenly made itself unavailable! He photographs a lot of buildings, so is the main function he uses!

thanks for trying though! :-)
