Hi PSG's

New member who has survived using PS4 on an iBook G4 with only the 256 MB built in on OS 10.4.11. Wanting to upgrade having purchased a Canon 550D/T2i 18 mega pixel DSLR to photo my paintings in RAW and process with CS4 (my version may not work with Intel ) to make print ready for posters up to A1 in size.

I am narrowed down to the new gen of Mac Mini's. I have a really tight budget. My main concern is Monitors due to the need for color accuracy. I am green in this field and it appears IP is the type to go for although many are way over my budget. I have seen

Asus PA246Q 24.1 ProArt P-IPS LCD £426
Hanns-G HLPB LED TFT 27' HDMI £200 (Good reviews even without IP)
Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM £420
Samsung Syncmaster NC240 PC0 IP £?

I hope many of you have tested and settled on one that is recommended. Thanks.

Appreciate any links for threads that have already addressed this question. I wouldn't want to pay more than the prices above as a basic Mac Mini will come in at around £500. Cheers ;-)

I have worked wth all of them Noit in photoshop though the best 1 for value is the Hanns G but the samsung is also very good.

I assume you have cs4 on mac as that is a shame if you are on a tight budget I would reccommend going PC double the performance for your money. But the cost of CS6 on top of it may make a big difference to the price.

Thanks Hoogle

I have only ever used the mac platform, because of the traditional stability. I don't recall ever having to deal with bugs or viruses. This is why I have avoided PC. Also in my naivety I imagine Adobe software is designed with Mac OSX in mind. YET I read on another forum that Mac's are not printer friendly and they would never admit to it. Not keen for the imac due to the glossy screen. The new mac mini's run quiet and cool with better specs than ever. So this is why I am leaning that way with mixed info on weather my older PS4 will work on the intel macs. I am always amazed how often a fix is found. Like I was told my OSX 10.4.11 wouldn't be able to have my Canon 550D/T2i RAW files read. True.....initially, then I downloaded DNG convertor and Dada !!!! It's just my ole G4 is asking to be downgraded to casual surfing due to it's age.

I have read Monitor comparisons but many are three years out of date. I'm not fussed too much about how my set up looks. I am all about functionality, durability and true color as I prep for printing using PS.

well any monitor can be colour calibrated and yes macs run adobe very well yet a well maintained pc (anti virus etc) will run just as well and at about half the cost. adobe tend to run there software more for performance so will focus more on a brand of graphics card at the moment adobe suggest nvidia does not mean to say you cant run it on other brands like ATI .

The only thing I have heard is mac screens really do not represent or perform very well. I honestly dont think you need to spend a fortune on a monitor unless you are going for these ultra sharp LED 1s not LCD they are worth the money.

I wondered how much of the monitor debate is 'Splitting hairs'. I also appreciate the knowledge on Graphic Cards. This is where I have little understanding of the significance.
