Watercolor Texture Template

On the PS program, there is a link to a watercolor texture template. How is this achieved? I tried putting my watercolor image down then converting to Smart Object but I can't seem to do the gradient overlay part. It keeps filling the whole screen.

I believe I have answered my own question by using Layer Style.
