What's Causing this to Happen

Alright, so I have a few graphics I'm working on and there's something that is really slowing me down. When I create a background shape (A rounded Rectangle with a gradient) if I move that shape outside of it's original position the opacity of the gradient changes. I don't know if there's some sort of mask, or another setting that would cause this. I probably didn't explain this right, but if you know what I'm talking about I'd appreciate any help on this.

Most of the time, if I rasterize the layer this behavior goes away, but I'd still like to know what setting is causing this to begin with.

Also, I forgot to mention - if I try to duplicate the layer into a new file it ruins the background. The style I wanted is gone. Even if U export the finished background to a .png and open it in a new file the color is off. There has to be a obvious setting I'm missing, it's just driving me crazy.

I think I figured it out - I guess at some point I clicked off the setting "align gradient with layer". So, that drove me insane for 2 days, but I got it. :)
