I have tried saving this is different fonts as well as smooth, crisp, etc and it still shows with a white border around it. Any suggestions (website below)?

You mean that you created these words in photo shop, saved them as gifs, and when you create the hover behaviour on the website you have white borders appear around the pink letters?

First of all, I don't think the technique is great. I never liked those moving background images on hover. Just create two identical ones, one white, one thing. Use one for regular state, the second for the hover state. That will probably already get rid of your problem.

Secondly you images are saved without any antialias. That's why they look jagged around the edges.

Thirdly, why not use .png instead of .gif? These days all browsers really support them, and I doubt that for your website you really need IE 6 support?

Then you can have nice transparency around the letters and they will sit seamlessly on the background. If you do this with identical images you will also have solved your "white border" problem.

Hope this helps, cheers

try a stroke the same color as the font, looks like one pixel stroke would do it.
