Please need help with the Gradient tool in conjunction with layer mask.. thank you!

hello.. i am a fair newbie to this... i am trying to blend a picture to a transparent background... every time i use the gradient tool it looks great, but then i try to blend another angle the original angle is then removed and then the new one is filled???? also since i am trying to make it a transparent back ground for printing on colored material reasons.. it always turns the gradient back ground to black? this is real frustrating and would take most people just a few minutes or even seconds to figure out... its been longs few hours... PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I assume you're using a layer mask to fade the image, if so change the gradient blending mode to multiply.

sounds like you are using the gradient tool direclt on the image and not on a layer mask.
