Dragonfly!

Stepped outside today and right outside my front door was a HUGE and beautiful dragonfly. Got my work camera (Nikon D300S) and got some nice pictures! These were my two favorites.





My settings were f/6.3 1/25 second ISO 800

Very nice shots of the dragonfly Jessicayla. It's just a pity that the head of the insect is a bit out of focus. I tried to sharpen it a little and opened up the mid tones a little.

That's something my lens had trouble with for some reason. Not really sure why but I tried a lot to get it to focus but it didn't want to. I wonder if it was having trouble because there was no contrast area to focus in on. I was using auto focus because my eyes are horrible and I can't ever tell if the manual focus is ACTUALLY in focus when I try to use it. Nice improvement, it looks a lot better!

I like it My eyes aren't as good as Chris's, so it looked great to me.

If I remember correctly I sharpened with these values: once the whole image, and once again just the insect.
Unsharp masking:
80%
Radius 0.5 pixel
