    I couldnt find an actual tutorial on the silver surfer, so i did what I thought was best just from scratch. Watch the video and let me know what you think, its only about 5 minutes! (high speed) i love making these videos now. NEW FINISHED PRODUCT as of 5/19/11

    you could always crop out the kids head. and then scale up/sideways either side of it slightly, cloning some of the sand by hand if needed.

    dodge tool. definitely. and then finish off with the spot healing brush. i dont think cloning for this is really practical with all the dramatic gradients.

    can u post the picture? its a little hard to determine the best action without something to go by. but just off the bat i will say thedodge tool in light moderation.

    this can be done with just a soft brush, touching up with the eraser tool.

    agreed. also i have found that when you add multiple adjustment layers, for example levels and curves, it gives that same unwanted effect.

I see that you did try and shade yourself appropriately for the pic, which is good. a lot of people forget simple shading, which can make tremendous difference.
