    Art community site

Hey, folks. I haven't posted here in a while, but I wanted to post this here and share it with you. I've recently been working on putting together a digital art site. It's sort of a community art gallery type of thing. I would really appreciate yoru thoughts/feedback, and of course, I...

    Anyone want a free website?

Be careful when doing this. I did this just before I graduated to build up a coupel of pieces for my portfolio and it didn't work out so well. I had one person in particular that I had put a lot of time into the layout on and did a relaly nice one for him, but then he never got around to...

Illustrator something I did for a magazine

Very nice, would like to see The Milwaukee Road in white, or one of the lighter yellows from that gradation at the top.

    orange temp maybe a v2

I love the color. I assume you're going to have images in the header there between the vertical lines? It's really kind of hard to comment more without seeing it with some content, but it's a good, cleen start. Just fill it in. :)

    please help with linking

You need to add the "border="0" attribute to the image tag. So the whole thing would look like: <a href="path/to/file.html"><img src="path/to/img" width="x" height="y" border="0" /></a>

Try pulling some of that lighter color form the building in the header image and using it for the link color.

make a "counter" for my site?

You'll need to utilize some form of server-side scripting language, be it Perl (CGI), PHP, ASP or CF .... take your pick, really. Perl and PHP are free and available on virtually all paid hosts and many free ones. You'll finid all kinds of pre-made counters in a variety of languages at...

Very nice. Incredible photo. I think the cart/email/help icons at the top coudl be a touch smaller, though. They seem a bit big, but maybe that's just me.

    portfolio site

Looks very nice. I think your nav links along the top need more contrast, though.

do i need a degree/qualifications to be a graphic designer!

I couldn't agree with MsOz more. Also, you will find that the skills and information that you pick up in those classes will be invaluable to you. When I started college, I already knew "how to draw" and "how to use photoshop and Illustrator" but there's so much more to it than that, and I...

The obligatory "Hi, I'm new" thread.

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks, and the compliments. :) I was looking around the show-rooms last night and feeling really humbled. There's soem beautiful work in there. Hats off to you all. Yes, the mouse (and everything else in that section) is 100% vector. I'm a gradient mesh junkie...

Advantages of tablets and are they necessary

I think it depends a lot on the type of work you're doing. If you're donig a lot of interface design and web layouts where you're mostly using things like the marquee tool, the pen tool, and your layer styles, etc. then a tablet isn't really worth the money. On the other hand, if you're...

The obligatory "Hi, I'm new" thread.

Hi. I'm new. ;) I've been meaning to join up for a while now, but either haven't had the time or haven't remembered to when I have had. Great place you've got here, looking forward to joining in the fun. There, now that that's out of the way, we can move on to the equally obligatory "about...
