Conversion background?

I have a PSD file with a checkered background (blank) with text. But when I import it to Premiere Pro, the background is black. Is the problem with Photoshop?

Assuming that the checkered background is acutally the transparent representation in Photoshop and not a copy and past of an image of the checkboard, give this link a look as others have had similar issues:

Your post says PSD file. You need a png file for transparency.
