CS6 clone stamp tool is duplicating whole picture

Suddenly when I click on the CS6 clone stamp tool and then ALT Click to select an area to use as the clone are, it duplicates the whole picture. The only way I can get out of the whole picture cloning is to close the file. Any idea what has happened and how to fix it?

Clone Source palette, make sure the Clipped box is check. That should do it.
