Distressing or ageing an object - Advice needed please

Hi,

I need to try and "age" this object as per attached photo. I'm using CS5 by the way.
At present as you can see it looks like it's just off the shelf but I want to incorporate in a background of a building site and therefore, for realism want it to look like it's dusty, been used just a bit more tatty than a pristine machine.
I looked hopefully towards the dust/scratch filter but either I'm not using this filter correctly or it doesn't give me the result I'm looking for.
Any thoughts/advice would be gratefully received. Thanks.

Did the quickly. Untitled-1.jpgRender fibers filter. Duplicate and rotate 45°. Add some noise and blur. Merge, change blend mode to darken, and clip to the background layer. Add a layer mask and paint away as required.

The Dust & Scratch filter removes dust and scratches, it doesn't add them. Hawkeye created his own imperfections using Render>Fibers and adding noise. Another option is to find an image of grunge or rust and insert it into your Photoshop file as a new layer above the jackhammer. Create a clipping mask and experiment with blend modes and opacity. I used Multiply in this example.
