Illustrator easiest way to add a corner radius

I'm looking for the best way to add a corner radius to each corner of a square. Is using the scissor tool the best then joining or is there a pathfinder way. I just learned that tool.

Use the rounded rectangle tool with the up and down arrows to alter the radius.

If you want to round the corners of any shape you can use Effect > Stylize > Round Corners.

Hello...I used the Effect > Stylize > Round corners on a font and it worked great EXCEPT I need to import this into CAD and modify the control points.....I am amazed that this has rounded edges BUT the control points are as if they should be sharp angles. Is there any way to get the control points to react the same way as if you built the radius edges by hand using the pen tool. I'm confused how illustrator is displaying rounded edges here with only 1 control point.
