How do I 'Ok' the move once I have cut and moved somehting?

I have used the marquee tool to select an area and moved it using the cursor keys. Now I want to drop it/commit it even when I hit enter I cant seem to get rid of the marquee flashing surround.

Any ideas what I have to press?

on a mac it's command plus D I think on a pc it's option D

or in your menu bar >select> deselect

Related shortcut, if you are moving/resizing/repositioning something with the transform tool then Ctrl+Enter will "finalize" the action. Also works for editing text and some other tools as well.
