How to make a dotted "V", "voddler-style"??

Hi! I'm kind of new to Photoshop. Right now I'm trying to make a Voddler-icon for my htpc. But the tricky part is how to make the "V". It's dotted and it's gradient. Is there specific name for that kind of "effect" or do I have to make it all from scratch.
I could not post a link of the icon because of some weird rule.. So if you don't know how the icon looks like, just Google "Voddler".

I think this can be easily done with a custom pattern.
After that, apply that pattern to your V-shaped layer, and just turn the fill down, while keeping the opacity at 100%.
