newb picture help.

:( it has to be approved by a moderator i guess.

Sorry, don't know the rules very good here. I hope my post wasn't inappropriate. It was just a direct link to the picture.

Actually it is very hard to adjust 2 complete different lighting situations to make 1 here is my attempt with ACR but it has graduated filters and all the tools used. and still not really passable.

Ever fancy a black and white version lol
That could also be a good option convert to black and white and manually colour it in yourself but if you have never done anything like that before probably not a good picture to start on.

Of course we are, lol. Modest too. I didn't cut out her hair, though with a pale grey wall , it could be done, but that's another day for you! It was the same grey wall behind her hair so I didn't eliminate it.

Here's my latest take:

no problem. Thank you! and thank you for all the examples. I sent my mother to this thread to review the input (she's on the left) and her reaction made me feel a bit dumb. She loved the work, but told me that the reason for the background in the pic is to rememberr my sister. She made those, and she died last year of cancer. I didn't even know that was her goal. I just took the picture where she asked me to.

So now what should I do. I agree it looks too busy with that background, but how do i correct it, or improve it if that's what she wants to be there?

lol and I thought i had a handle on this now.

You could find some other BG, maybe even a part of one of her pictures blur it, and you could move the entire portrait away from being photography and make it a momento instead. For instance, if you don't already have any, take photos of her pictures and make them into a tryptych along the bottom of the photograph, then frame the whole thing. Just a suggestion.

(what the heck is wrong with this editor? it underlined both momento and trytych which are spelled and used right)

Here is a very rough example of what I am describing, so you can have a visualization, no matter how much you may hate it. :bustagut:

BTW, each box at the bottom represents one of her pictures.
