Ok so I have been giving this everything I have for 3 days now and still cannot get it to turn out right. I am simply trying to create a transparent background with Kat Von D on top of it, but I can never the the background eraser around her hair to turn out right without looking like there are chunks of hair missing or points of the background still there. Can anyone please help me out and either tell me a great way to do this or perhaps post a picture of it up if you find the time. I know with you guys being pros this is probably a 90 second task I have wasted 6-7 hours on... Thanks in advance! PS the fingers on her right hip are fine they do not need to be removed I have something I will be placing over the top of them!! And again I know I have said it already, but thank you so much in advance for saving me another grueling 7 hours!!!

This is one of the harder things in shop to pull off, i used a quick mask but masked the edges with a rough brush, as to create hair like effect, with patience and time you can create a very real look - this is just a quick blast at it for your help requirments:wink:
Lots of other ways probably much better but it's the one i have shared.

now let me reply to this one how you would do it with a tablet:

paul's looks good, but the hair's edges are jittery and you can see where the "fake" hair was drawn on the right side of the picture: it's 100% obvious that those extra strands were drawn with a mouse; they're angular and not natural.

With a tablet, you would duplicate the layer, add a total white layer underneath the duplicated layer, then erase all the un-needed parts around Kat (on the top layer again). With a tablet, it's a very natural and easy process, because you'd be erasing the same way you would erase with an eraser on paper.

and again with the edges of the hair softened a bit


to everyone's benefit of the doubt, the original image is a poor quality one. it's hard to work with.

Please refrain from putting words into others mouths mate, your not the be all and all of Photoshop even though you might think you are.
The final image request as been dealt with and my version of what was asked has more than satisfied the OP, this thread needs to be closed as it's a done deal.

sorry bud, didn't mean to offend.

but simply put, there are 0 advantages to using a mouse over a tablet. None. Nada.

It's why all the studios in the world use tablets and not a mouse.

in fact the high-end studios are using cintiqs, not tablets. An ever bigger step up. But a mouse is not even used in these places. Intuos's are the bare minimum. I don't know what the debate is here. I can assure you that no creative art studios are using a mouse for their digital work lol.

but if i was running a school on how to learn photoshop, i wouldn't be teaching students with a mouse that's for sure. it wasn't intended for that.
 
I like Paul's way. Some of us only have a mouse. some ways it looks like it would be easier to blend with backgrounds. Thanks for the tip Paul. I appreciate it as well. :) Boy is it silly for someone to say one way is better then the other when it's clearly preference, ability and tool access. It's like oh you don't have a draw pad, no photo edit learning for you!

My point exactly Manda, but smokey thinks everyone as access to all tools in the store, and you can get away with less if you know how to apply them.
