Recreate technique used in this image

I am trying to reproduce this crystaline/diamond effect in Photoshop but am hitting a wall.

Perhaps some of you could shed some light on how this is executed?

This is a diamond fake refraction mask created in and used with Unreal Engine 4. This would be an almost impossible task for Ps.
