removing the camouflage from the image

hello people.

i need to remove the camouflage from this image so i am basically left with a white template with the wrinkles to add on my own camouflage to it, i've tried manually removing the camouflage by layer masks, but it was a messy result.
i can imagine it would need a greyscale somewhere?

just a straightforward guide will do if at all possible, thanks

P.S there was a template by the game developers but all links to the psd file are now dead.

if thats flattened you have a lot of work ahead of you, you'll need select each item and edit away

the camoufflage you want to add, can you just overlay that over the whole image? try different layer modes, you might get lucky...I doubt it but you might

That is a whole lot of work.... I presume it's a jpeg?

Grayscale may work.... but you may still have a lot of erase tool workout......

it's a DDS DXT5 once it's in the game but i had to save it as a jpeg to get it up on here, and to Idad, i can but the multicam gets in the way, and i've just hatched an idea, 2 secs

awesome! thanks. currently i've just sussed out that there is a bump map in which the same detail is given as the skin so, im getting that onto there and seeing how it turns out

Just used the magic wand on the background (believe it or not) and kept adding sections till I got most of it then deleted it Tolerance was around 10 I believe. Still some excess hanging around that needs to be erased but it was a start. .

That's the beautiful thing about a forum like this. What one person sees and another sees and how they tackle the problem can be vastly diffrent. Hence we all learn from each other. I've learned a tremendous amount here.
