I am new to photoshop... I have a document that contains a blue background and I am bringing in many different pictures, removing what is behind it and keeping it on the blue background. There will be about 1000 images that I need to do this to and I want a way I can then save each image with the background colour to a jpg or bitmap file, can this be done or automated, thanks!

You may also want to read about Variables and Data Sets in the help files. You can automate by loading the various images through a text file.

I know i'm a bit late, but just to further on the discussion. You can also automate background removal if you don't care so much about quality, or if you have huge images that will be shrunk down. These automations can be applied to a set of files in a folder and I believe subsets of folders. Automation can do almost anything you would regularly do in photoshop. To bring up automation, or Actions as they are called in photoshop, click Window -> Actions ( Alt+F9 ). They are pretty easy to do and everything is self explanatory.
