for some reason that's made it's self apparent in the last five minutes, my flash up will make my camera's shutter button COMPLETELY unresponsive, i can't even use autofocus here, i don't know what the hell is up, but it's annoying i can't soot higher speed indoors now!

what's up with it? it's been acting weird since it's last charge up :/

EDIT the standalone auto-focus button doesn't even work.

are you using it in an auto mode or a manual mode

I am assuming you your flash up button is your on board pop up flash or fill light right

Well I am not a pentax guy but you should have a software reset button in your menu somewhere that will reset your preferences and personal settings and failing that you should have a little pin hole button somewhere on your camera that will do a full factory reset.

If that doesnt fix it then Contact whoever manages your warranty.

done a reset, noting's changed i'm going to try charge the battery, call be bonkers but it might work.

Emailed Customer support yesterday as it crashed completely while taking macro shots, they said it wasn't a "critical failure" i'm beginning to think that it was now that the flash is causing shutter problems.

did a Pixel Map, it's got my focus back, but the shutter still won't release.

You have to be demanding that it gets sorted and as it is less than 12 months old I am sure you can get it replaced with a new model. Sounds like your on a downward spiral of faults just make sure you have no evidence that you have damaged it etc.

righty ho then, looks like some force will be applied, i don't want it replaced, i've grown fond of this one so i'd much rather have it repaired. but if replacement is the only way, so be it.

if it lasts me throughout spring, i'll be happy.

Responded to their support Email explaining the issue and told them that I believe it needs to be sent in to them, looked over, and repaired.

what are you talking about spending close to £400 on a camera you better hope it lasts you a lot longer than 6 months and make sure they do look at it I have known people go back and fourth that when they admit it is a fault they also state that your warranty has ran out and then charge you loads.

Or even if it is in warranty they still charge you shipping costs or engineer costs. Dont take any crap from them.

Yeah Hoogle is right I remember when I first joined you were super uber excited about getting this camera for xmas you definately want it to last a couple of years lucky errors are happening now rather than when your warranty runs out. Get it sorted approach the shop first they will more likely exchange it if it is a big store. Or they will ship it of to pentax at no cost to you but be aware it could be gone for some weeks.

Yes Alex send it in I'm sure Pentax has a limited one-year manufacturer’s warranty, starting from the date of purchase.
Ask that they do a cleaning and calibration too, you're entitled to it under your warranty.

and if you clen your own sensors make sure there is no evidence of it as it can void your warranty. Speaking of which I have a $40 cleaning kit and a $5 one from ebay and the ebay 1 actually seems better well worth it rather than having it cleaned every couple of months for $50 and definately not as hard as manufacturers or shops make out.

I paid a shop to clean mine professionally last year and they sprayed compressed canned air on it and left streak marks over my sensor so thats when I looked into doing it myself. I reccomend everyone cleans there own sensors but make sure you learn how to do it first I dont want you damaging your camera because Isaid so lol.

Thanks for the Advice guys, i've just got to make sure i've still got the receipt and whatnot, or i'm bugged out. should still have them all somewhere.
i never thought to ask them about cleaning and calibration, thanks for that advice.
@Imac I was indeed very excited, I still love it now, still a pleasure to handle and very versatile, to be away from it for weeks will be torture, but I'll live with it if I end up with the same camera, just repaired.
I've never dared clean the sensor myself, I've retracted the mirror once or twice to check it is okay (i discovered a black spot on my photos taken Monday morning, turned out to be lens dirt)

I've only done dust alerts, removals (shaky sensor LOVE IT! great hand massage :P) and pixel mapping when battery life permitted me to.

but hey, at least the customer support is quick, they told me to update my firmware when I asked them about the crash, worth a try?

well yes like anything you should keep it updated. You never know it could be a known problem and the firmware update could solve it wouldnt be the first time a company has found something wrong with there product and sneakily tried fixing it without announcing it.

wait, they've responded with this;

Thank you for your enquiry.
Many apologies for the inconveniences this camera has caused so far.
It seems like there is an electrical/mechanical fault in the camera, which cannot be corrected with a software update. Please approach our repair center Johnsons Photopia in order to receive further details regarding the warranty and repair procedure for your camera.

Updating the firmware wont hurt either way
