We try to go through the list of all new members ever day, many that haven't even posted a message yet, and check the email addresses, home pages, and IP addresses to look for multiple accts on the same IP.

If we find multiple accts or spam home pages, the accounts get deleted.
In the case of multiple accounts the IP address may get banned too, dozens a week.

The "volunteers" here may spend hours a day checking new accounts and deleting spam accounts.
The "volunteers" here do it because we care about this site an want to make it a useful helpful Photoshop site so I don't think it's unreasonable to click the Report button, which is what the members can do, to help the "volunteers" out.

The moderators and I do not have the ability to implement any additional automatic measures to deal with spam so all we can do if a spammer or bot gets by us and actually posts a message is to delete it and ban the account.

why not? XD seriously though, spam is a serious issue that won't go unless the internet goes, it'll be around somewhere sometime. so the quickest possible way to get rid of it is to just push the report button.

There are ways to make a forum largely spam-free, but all or most of them make it harder to join - enhanced captcha, questions to answer, administrator approval of new members, etc.

The lifeblood of this particular forum is the constant flow of people through here asking questions, getting help, and starting discussions. Most of the new members join, get help, and don't show up again unless or until they need more help. I love that about PSG!! When the flow of new people is stemmed or slowed a core group of 15-20 people end up talking to each other and the forum slows down. Eventually it would die as people move on to more active forums - spam or no spam.

So I will keep hitting the report button and otherwise ignore the small amount of spam I see here. I for one am more than willing to put up with the occasional spammer to keep this forum the way it is.

i personally dont think there is a lot of spam here.
iv only seen about 3 since i joined
