First off i read the thread about the free and easy programs and my first question is this what program would be highly recommended to start off with or should i just choose one and run with it?

Secondly, i was wondering what the term "Image has been compressed to JPEG twice" means or if any of you have even heard that term before?

Thanks All!

A lot of people like Gimp and at least one of our regulars is familiar with it.
A JPG is a compressed "lossy" format.

Every time you save a JPG you loose some quality.
If you work on an image over several sessions you should save the file in a lossless format like TIF or PSD.
Gimp should be able to save to at least Tif.

Gimp is the most like Photoshop, and IMO, the most powerful software that is totally free (unless you donate to the people who make it).

Hey TommyC if i am incorrect please say but do you mean this one?

if so then i would definitely Recommend you start off with GIMP or Photoshop Express if you plan on buying photoshop in the future, it will give you a fair indication of what photoshop has to offer, but obviously photoshop is neater and more filter rich.
should you need any help with GIMP i still use it alongside photoshop so you can feel free to ask any questions.

although i'm not familiar with the message, basically it means that your work has been put into a jpeg format twice.

Yes, that is the thread and thanks ahead of time I might need.
