Hello All,

I have been struggling with creating a Unit Logo for almost a year now.:bangdesk:
I have the basic drawing done and can't figure out coloring it and changing some wording.

SMAG Wings 10.png

I need the word DEPT. changed to OFFICE. Semper Vigilantes needs to curve like the scroll.
The wings and scroll are silver and the badge and anchors are gold as seen below.

SMAG Wings colored2.png

I have done this in GIMP and actually have no idea how I did it!
If possible, I would like to make the gold and silver look realistic.
Here is an example of another logo that we have.
It would be great if I could get it in a similar style.

Thanks for any help I could get on this.

Be Safe!

I know this is in the request section but your wording implies that you would quite like to learn some of this yourself. If that is the case I would suggest looking at layer styles. Here is a link to some free gold ones. http://www.ispsd.com/03/15-free-photoshop-gold-styles/

I am a work at the moment but can have go bit later.

Cheers

Roger that! I am trying to learn, but can't afford PhotoShop on my own. Will the styles work in GIMP or Pixlr? Those are the two editors I primarily use. In the meantime, I really need help getting this finished out. I am trying to get this approved as a pin and patch for our uniform. I have submitted it three times and they want a finished product.

Thanks, John!

Hello. We need some clarification to make sure this thread is in the right forum.

Do you want help to do this for yourself?

Do you want someone to do this for you?

You really need to have this professionally done. The better option for you is to move this request to the Fee for Service Section. Please read the RULES for posting a job.

Hello. We need some clarification to make sure this thread is in the right forum.

Do you want help to do this for yourself?

Do you want someone to do this for you?

A little bit of both. I want to learn, but I need someone competent to clean it up and color it for me.
I've been working on this for over a year now. We have a Graphic Arts Section, but they're lazy at best and not forthcoming with helping me out.
I did all the work myself. That is my best effort at coloring and I can't curve text for $#!t!

Can someone fix this and possibly explain it to me?

I played around with this just to see what I could do. Really, there is too much to fix, IMO.

I don't know how beneficial this will be if you're not using photoshop, and I'll probably leave something out, too. My "workflow" doesn't flow all that much! It's more like trial and error, seeing if something works.....or not.

First look at these for text on a path....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQKmrKOHyao...and...http://www.photoshopessentials.com/basics/type-on-a-path/

I'm sure you can find more with a Google search.

Then this one for coloring...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zleBGbwZjqU

I used the pen tool to cut out the wings, star, and ribbon and put them each on a new layer. I colored each one using sampled colors from you're bottom image, and put a white to gray gradient on the wings. I used a small white brush at very low opacity to go over the designs (??) on the star tips and the ribbon. Used the black brush and eraser to try and fix up the outlines as much as possible.

Then I got bored with it and quit. I think that's mostly it, but if you have questions come back and ask, I'm sure someone more qualified will have an answer.

OK that helps!
I was trying to do it as a whole instead of layering it.
I should have known better. I used layers to put everything together.
I will look at the videos and try another copy.

Your attempt was far better than mine.
It is good enough to submit to my Sergeant, which I did today.
Thank you again!!! You did great! :giggle::youtheman:

Be Safe!
