    For what you're doing the Pen is the tool. The way to make it more efficient is to love the pen tool. I love the pen, repeat, I love the pen. Get used to it and it will become second nature and be as fast as any other selection tool.

    The dock is the give away that the image is slightly tilted, although not much. There are many ways to straighten it. I use CS3. My favorite is to go under the Filter menu > Distort > Lens Correction. A seperate little app will open. In this case, un-check the grid to get it out of the way...
