Is reducing jpg size inorder to save space a good idea?

Yes thanks, very helpful but I am sure that my colleague will say that the difference between 12 and 8 is "negligible". Is there and example that I could uses that could "exaggerate" the differences, without falsifying them of course?

Is reducing jpg size inorder to save space a good idea?

Many thanks for your very informative response and thanks to it I have found an excellent site dealing with the subject of archiving photos and all it's ramifications http://archivehistory.jeksite.org However, I was rather hoping to find a few simple and clear arguments to show to a person who...

Is reducing jpg size inorder to save space a good idea?

I work together with a colleague maintaining an archive of our photos from many different sources and in all shapes and sizes. He wants to reduce the size (not the physical dimensions of the image but the space that it occupies on the disk) of all the jpg's over 3MB (some are over 8MB) down to...

Thanks both to Paul and Tom Mann for input. The photo is one of those unique occasions where the cheapest point and shoot camera was there captured the scene.

Hard to Fix red eye - help please

Hello, I have been given a photo to "fix" but the usual tools, PS red eye, desaturate, etc. do not give a very convincing result. The subject has blue eyes. Any help on a good method to use would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Saving a scan in Tiff or jpeg???

I am working with a colleague scanning some archive 10x8 inch photos. I have convinced him to scan inTIF at 600 dpi. The resulting TIF file is about 60 MB. We make a few retouches and then he wants to save it in JPG as it is then only 4MB. I know that there is something inherently wrong in doing...

    Adding Contrast, removing a shadow

Many thanks. In waiting for your example I have been experimenting and yes your method 3 does a very good job of getting some detail back into the face. Do you have an idea for treating that shadow on the left?
