How can I make the gold evenly lit in this icon?

Hello,

I was given a reproduction of this icon which was photographed in uneven light.
What would be the best approach in equalising the gold background?

Thanks in advance.

Best bet is probably a brightness adjustment layer, then brushing on the layer mask to even out the color.

New blank layer filled with the mid ground colour of the gold, then applied a gradient overlay in black but with the black portion over the light side of your original, i then lowered opacity played with further light settings and applied via a soft light layer masking out the people as not to affect the colours to much.
Hope this helps?
