    Pen and Ink Drawings

Happy New Year to all! I'll be returning to my volunteer position at our local botanical gardens and am in need of some coaching once again. One of the problems I keep encountering is in trying to even out the tones when I'm scanning and working on the old black and white sketches. I am...

    Need More Help from Hawkeye

Hi, Larry! The ONLY reason to save these drawings in JPG is so that my boss is able to open them when he's at home and he doesn't have PS on his home computer. He doesn't DO anything with them when he opens them. He merely will look them over and make notes about what he wants me to do with...

    Need More Help from Hawkeye

Hi, Mike! Scanning directly to PS and then immediately saving as PS and JPG. I am not sure which direction to go to change the scanner settings so it will scan these Pen and ink drawings less intensely. Currently using 16-bit grayscale at 1200 resolution. We are afraid that if we leave them...

    Need More Help from Hawkeye

 Of course, I'll accept help from almost any one of you PS helpers, too! I need some direction before hitting the scanner again tomorrow. Nana

    Need More Help from Hawkeye

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you guys and gals but my boss put me on another project for awhile and now I am back to the original one, using pen and ink, black and white drawings of orchids and their parts. I tried making the adjustments as suggested (using Threshold and Levels and...

    Need More Help from Hawkeye

 Thanks Mike and Hawkeye! I'll try this out on Monday, when I return to my volunteer job. I'll let you both know if it works. Thank you, again. Nana

    Need More Help from Hawkeye

In my previous post about scanning very old pen and ink drawings and then moving them into a much smaller new page, Hawkeye came to my rescue and I've been able to complete about 50+ of these pages for publication. Thank you, Hawkeye, a zillion times over. I have hit a slight snag, though, and...

Need Help with Old to New Backgrounds

Hawkeye - if it had been a possibility, I would have reached through my computer today and pulled you out of it and planted a big kiss on your cheek for helping me out with this project!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, etc. It worked!! Now that that part of the process has been fixed, I...

Need Help with Old to New Backgrounds

That's what I've been playing around with, Guru. Since the greenish hue is being pulled over from the scanned original, though, should I use the layers option on the original or wait till I drag it all over to the new page and do the layers option on the new one? Thank you so much for the help!

Need Help with Old to New Backgrounds

"It would be a lot better to conquer the problem before you have to fix it. Big timesaver. But without more info, it's hard to say what the issue might be." This is exactly why I'm trying to figure this part out. In the end, there will be more than 50 of these pages being done for a...

Need Help with Old to New Backgrounds

Mike, when I scan these documents, they are saved in both PS and jpeg formats. I'm beginning to think that changing the scanner's settings might be the answer to the problem we're having. Thanks!!

Need Help with Old to New Backgrounds

Sorry. Didn't think about doing that. We are scanning pages of pen and ink drawings of orchid plants. Attached is my scan of scanned document AFTER I have moved individual flower sections over to new page.

Need Help with Old to New Backgrounds

Hello, Everyone! I have just recently begun doing some volunteer work and am using PS for the first time. For the project I am working on, I have been taught a lot of the basics for which we will be using PS but I have come across a problem that I'm not sure is a PS issue or if it is a scanning...
