    3D Mapping Channel Interest?

Hmm... Blending between different textures...? One of my favorite uses is to chop out parts that need more texture space with out having to size up the whole texture. Take lips for example. You can chop out the lips, give them more texture space via uv mapping, assign to a different channel...

    3D Mapping Channel Interest?

Mapping channels are cool. I've got some tutorial ideas running around in my head. Unfortunately, I'm a Max user. That is, I don't know if other 3d programs use them or in what capacity. Several questions: Does your non-Max 3d program have mapping channels? If so, what 3d prog is it? Do...

    3D New Poser Thread

Alrighty, my little Poser contribution. Not finished, but about as far as I'm going to go. Ripped a Poser head. Remapped it because I can't stand Poser uv mapping. Then did some quick-n-sleazy painting. Shown are the colour and bump. Simple and didn't take much time at all. The hardest...

    Smooth Displacement Filter?

Last night I remembered another technique that I had played with a long time ago. Instead of Displace 500%, try Displace 250% twice in a row. Depending on the "motion", some funky things can happen (mixed blessing). I might do some more playing with this idea later.

    Color Matching question.

I usually get good results with Curves. Pick a highlight and write down the values. Pick a lowlight and write down the values. Add a Curves Ad-Layer and use the numbers to match... Ummm... Don't I have something in the archives about this around here? edit: No! It's not here! I even...

    Masks & Selections

Actually, it's more like copy and paste. In the layer palette, ctrl + a to select all. Start a fresh alpha in the channels palette. With the new alpha active, ctrl + v to paste. Tada. Works great for visible black & white. If you are copying visible colour, things can get a bit tricky...

    Smooth Displacement Filter?

Pfft! Okay, there might be a Photoshop solution. Get the SDK and see if it can handle 16bit. If it can, write the plug. Over at the Asylum, we have chatted about this in the past. I might drop another post over there to see if we can make it happen this time around.

    Smooth Displacement Filter?

Just did some quick tests. target doc 2400x2400 Displace 450%/450% using a variety of D-Maps of varying sizes that I just happen to have lying around. Even tried the different interpolation settings that PS7 has to offer. Got pretty bad jaggies everytime. I think this can be chaulked up to...

    Smooth Displacement Filter?

I have run into this before. Never thoroughly studied it, though. Right now, only two things: 1. Bigger D-Map more the size of your target, or maybe even bigger than the target image (good stab, Keeper) 2. Try different interpolation The few tests that I've done in the past, those two...

How can make the glass in water effect??

Kids driving me nuts. Not much time for this. How about a gentle nudge? Attachment Left Side: 1. New Doc with 50% grey 2. Channels palette > Red 3. Make sure foreground/background are default 'd' 4. Filter > Render > Clouds Difference Clouds to taste 5. Channels palette > Green 6...

How can make the glass in water effect??

I was talking about this just the other day. Unfortunately, it's time to put the little one to bed. If no one beats me to it, I'll see what I can whip up. Hmm... I wonder if I should use the same subject...?

    Masks & Selections

To apply a selection as a layer mask, you can use the menus. Or you can use the little shortcut icon at the bottom of the layers palette. Here is some chat about layer masks, item #6: Building Backdoors.

    Masks & Selections

    1. My method - Cut-n-paste the image into an alpha channel Load it as a selection Apply it as a layer mask 2. ctrl + click the layer mask to load it as a selection 3. Not exactly sure what you are asking. I suspect that #1 might be the start of an answer, then it's a matter of possibly...

    Technical Slop off-line for awhile

It's currently gone for purely personal reasons. From the very beginning, Tech-Slop served a purpose. For all of those years, I never really knew it's purpose. After Power Distort, the purpose became all too clear to me. Tech-Slop no longer serves me and I have no urge to put it back on-line (it...

    3D Multi-Pass #5 Pseudo-Challenge

Aha! A bunch of renders and it's your job to put them together into a final piece. Using PS for 3d work isn't just about doing textures or little post touch-ups. Multi-Pass #5 I do have a few things to cover about the renders, but I'll wait for questions because I'm a little extra busy...

3D For those new to 3D...

Sorry, no time for links right now. Google friend! Another alternative for the not-so-faint of heart is RenderMan compliant software. There are some free RM compliant renderers out there, like Aqsis, Pixie, and BMRT. Other things available like K3D, Ayam, and ShaderMan. Wait... One...

    Touching Up a Pic

I'm going to assume that Adjustment Layers are being used. Never forget that Ad-Layers have a mask. Let's say that you get the sky looking good but the ground is bunk. Well, just mask it and use another ad-layer for the ground with an appropriate mask. In my travels, it's been rather common...

How do I create a pic like this ?

For the most part: 1. De-saturate 2. Set blending mode to Hard Light That should give you a good start. Looks like there is some other funky masking going on in there.
