    can't use Brightness/contrast in layers

    Brightness/contrast only seems to have an effect on the 'background' layer--not on any subsequent layers I apply. And it only seems to be on the current docs that I am using--if I open some older ps docs from the recent past, brightness/contrast works fine on all layers...?

    When I used to use the liquify filter, I was able to see each move/drag as I made it. Now it doesn't show any change until I click 'OK' and only then can I see the result of each 'drag'... So I am sort of having to guess, more or less, where the section I am altering/dragging will end up...

    Thanks Ivan. That's very useful info. When I hold down the shift key with the grid, I find I can draw a line, then if I click another area (still holding shift) it immediately connects a straight line to the point I have clicked...

    I checked in 'view' and 'snap' was selected (not 'snap to' ...'snap to' has a drop-down menu but nothing was selected there) I deselected 'snap' and that would seem to be the cause of the problem. don't know how it got selected before. I certainly didn't select it...not consciously anyway...

    Unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't think its likely we are going to find out how this 'problem' occurred because the brush tool has spontaneously started working normally again.     Hello… I don't know what I have done, but when using the brush/pencil tool it now only draws straight lines (horizontal and vertical). If I try to draw a diagonal line, for example, it just comes out as a staircase. Any ideas? Thanks Mark

    With the old PS version I only had to hover and alt click on any PS document on the desktop without having to make it the active document first. I have now discovered that with the new version you have to click on the doc you want to clone from first, thus making it active, and THEN alt click...

    Yes absolutely I could, actually I have just bought a new imac and have PS version 12.0 on my old mac before I was using version 8.0 I have opened the 8.0 version on the new mac and it is possible to clone into the working document from other documents as long as they have been opened in PS...

    Thanks maximus for that, I cant believe I hadnt noticed that drop down menu before. This will prove very useful in the future... BUT, I am still unable to clone from an outside image even if I select all layers.

    I used to be able to clone stamp from a different image than the one I was working on. while using clone stamp I could hover over another image on the desktop, press the alt key and click, and then continue to clone the main image. I double check that the layer in question is selected etc...

    Um, okay, I think I may have found out the problem. with a mac I have to change the language input to british (not spanish) in the system prefs. The only headache now is that I will have to keep changing each time back to spanish for all other work especially text based work. if anyone knows...

    is it time to buy a wacom tablet

    I bought the wacom bamboo a couple of weeks back. SO glad I did, especially when you need accurate strokes with a brush or the eraser tool etc, so much quicker and esier. I don't know how I managed before with the mouse. though you can instantly shift to using the mouse again when convenient.
