OK, I added a lot of screenprints, I'm not so good in words:
- New file 3000 x 3000 px color it 50 % (transparent background hurts the eyes)
- set the guidelines for a view from above (the double are for the thickness of the wooden hull) Make sure the whole surface has guidelines.
- with the pen tool draw the contour of
'half' the boat.
- make a selection
- press CTRL+J to place the selection on his own layer
- Go to 3D/new 3D extrusion from selected layer
- In th 3D menu click on the 'deform' button
(1)
- Set the horizontal angle on -180°
(2)
- Pull the extrusion depht slider to the left until about on the right guide line and work with the up/down arrow to make it fit with the guide line (do not try only with the slider, it will drive you nuts)
(3)
For the change of material select ALL layers (you can change it afterwards)
In the materials tab go to diffuse/replace texture
Choose your texture (make sure the planks stand verticaly)
This is what you get
This is for the basic hull shape.
I hope I was any good at explaining the 'how' I did it.
