brackets not changing brush size

i have used photoshop for years now. However, I still have CS3 or 4 still. Anyway, my brackets ( [ ] ) aren't changing the brush size any more. Instead they're changing the opacity. I can't figure out how to change it back. I desperately need it to change my brush sizes again. It takes way too long doing them manually ;)
Thanks!

Do you have the brush tool in hand when you are trying to re size the brush? I only ask because I have done it too.

i guess im not sure what you mean by 'brush tool in hand'. but i have the brush selected, the "circle" is over the picture, and I push the bracket(s) and the brush size isn't changing. however at the top where it shows the opacity, that is going up or down in percentage... yada yada. ideas?

did you change key commands on your keyboard to customer proceedures?

i never did anything on purpose. i guess anything could have happened on accident... and i dont know what i did.

another thing.... do you know how you can usually press the "X" and it goes back and forth between the white and black brushes (little squares on the left bottom... like when you're masking stuff and need to change the brush from black to white, etc)..? well the "x" thing isn't working either :(
I'm assuming it's all related???

it sounds like your keyboard preferences have been changed I doubt after resetting brushes that it is photoshop to blame, check keyboard

go to "Edit => Keyboard Shorcuts and Menus" select the default photoshop set from the list and press the save button, then accept, if that doesn't fix the problem check the keyboard language configuration, sometimes it changes by accident, press windows + r to open the execute window and write intl.cpl then press enter, go to the keyboards and languages tab and press the change keyboard button, select English (United States) - US from the list and press ok, if that doesnt work either buy a new keyboard =P good luck!

This happened to me too two days ago. It is very hard to work without this option. Please I need help. I noticed this is affecting several others too. Will Adobe help out if this can't be resolved? My programs are older than two years so there is no free help there. I use CS4 Design Premium

Here's something Steve wrote to an earlier post about the same problem:

Re: Help - Brackets do not decrease or increase brush size
Hi Flash,

Try resetting your preferences file.
Start Photoshop and immediately hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows)
or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS X).

Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"

I have done all that has bee suggested. Re-install, check keyboard language and i changed keyboards. I uninstalled all updates done back to the 17th of this month. The brackets do affect the opacity and Flow. If you check or uncheck the airbrush it switches between the two as if you were using the shift key. I do think it is a photoshop problem. Any more suggestions? Please this is getting very annoying. Its not like I can just afford to get another Photoshop! Thanks for all the suggestions so far though. I like to keep trying things, hate to just accept defeat. By the way my computer isn't even 4 months old yet and I am running windows 7. If that matters.

Ok I tried deleting the Adobe Photoshop Settings. It worked but you have to do it every time you open Adobe Photoshop. What I don't get is my other Adobe programs work fine. I have Illustrator and InDesign and everything works there. The [] work the same in Illustrator and they have always worked. I made sure afterPhotoshop started messing up.
