cutting out a image

I'm haveing trouble cutting out a image so i can add to a background.i've tryed the magic lasso tool.with no luck also i've trye the wand with no luck.should be a simple thing to do but just can't catch on.im a slow learner

Try the PEN tool. It works the best for me. Try googling pen tool tutorial.

rayw - without seeing the image your working on I would go with dv8_fx's suggestion.

(.. and I'm outta here before Steve comes back ... )

I do stuff completely different. Extract tool is god.
Yes, but then you need to have the Extract Tool installed. It's not there by default anymore. It's in a separate addons folder on the installation disc.
Or you can pick it up as a dl from Adobe - I think .. (and hope) ..
