Grids and Rulers issue

Hi everyone,

I was following a tutorial today, i can't post the link i think because I'm a new member

Didn't get very far

At step 4 the tutorial tells you to drag grids into the artwork from the rulers 100px from each edge of the artwork. My problem is when I drag a grid from the ruler I have no idea of accurately telling how far I've dragged it. I can't work out how to make the ruler 'zero' to the corner of the artwork. I tried changing the grid and counting squares but often the artwork is not divisible by the grid leaving half squares ect. Is there anyway of just measuring 100px?? A dangerously simple problem that is driving me INSANE.

Click View-New Guide, select vertical or horizontal, then set 100 px in the position box.

Also hold your Shift key down as you move the guides, release your mouse button before you release the Shift key once you have it where you want it. Most accurate way I have found when dragging guides.

This is a great tip thanks! However it always applies from the left of the artwork, do you know how to apply it from the right? I.e if I wanted to create a margin 100px from both the left and right? The same would apply to the top and bottom of the artworks. It seems very long winded to have to do the maths if you know what I mean!

Nice one! This really works as well. Do you know how to physically move the ruler tho?? This is what I guess I want to achieve, to be able to move the 0 point to where I need it to be, otherwise its a pretty useless ruler.

From PS help:

Position the pointer over the intersection of the rulers in the upper-left corner of the window, and drag diagonally down onto the image. A set of cross hairs appears, marking the new origin on the rulers. You can hold down Shift as you drag to make the ruler origin snap to the ruler ticks.
